International Volunteer Day 2012

Today we celebrate the International Volunteer Day (IVD) established by the United Nations in 1985 (For further informations click here).

A chance for volunteer-involving organizations and individual volunteers to promote their contributions to development at local, national and international levels and to celebrate the power and potential of volunteering.

To celebrate this wonderful day, we’ve gathered all the volunteers in our organization, watched the IVD presentation and asked some of our volunteers to share their experience, here is what they’ve said:

What does it mean to be a volunteer for you?

‘To be a volunteer is to give your time, share your knowledge and skills and take responsibility in a project which match your ideals. It’s also a challenge.’

Why did you decide to volunteer?

‘Because it’s useful for yourself and for others. Because it’s good for your personal growth and for helping others that are in a disadvantage situation.’

What kind of project are you involved in?

‘We collect sewing machines and tools, we refurbish them and send them to Africa, things that people need. We try to recycle as much as possible contributing to sustainable development.’

Tea brake at 3:30 PM in the yellow room… it’s freezing today, but nothing that a good warm cup of tea and volunteering spirit won’t solve.
